What is KPOPCON?

KPOPCON is the first K-pop convention in the United States, and second in the world (the Philippines K-pop convention came first!). At this annual event, we gather K-pop fans, dancers, professionals, educators, and leaders from across the nation to share, express, support, learn, and empower each other in a two-day convention at UC Berkeley. It all begins on day one with an inspirational keynote speech followed by a couple workshop sessions, a delicious Korean lunch and opportunity for some impromptu dance moves, more workshops, and a special performances showcase to top off the night. Then on day two, we have a huge fan meetup where people can connect with their K-pop community and fandoms with ongoing open mic/talent performances and dance workshops throughout the afternoon.

Is there an age requirement to attend?

There is no age requirement for attending the convention, though those under 18 may need to sign an on-site waiver in order to participate or receive free housing.

Where do I park?

There is free parking on the streets of Berkeley on weekends. If you’re lucky, you may be able to get a parking spot right in front of the convention venue! In addition, there is also unattended on-campus parking at the Underhill Structure near College Avenue and Channing Way, which charges around $0.50 per half hour ($12 maximum, cash only, rates subject to change).

Will there be checked baggage?

Yes! We will have checked baggage available throughout the event! On day one, we’ll have check-in of your belongings at Anna Head Hall during the Reception and Keynote. Then they will be transported to Dwinelle Hall for easy access during the workshops and lunch. Anything that is left unclaimed will be available at Krutch Theatre during the performances at night. On day two, your belongings may be checked-in at our meetup location.

How does housing work?

When you register for KPOPCON, you can request free volunteer housing for whichever nights during the convention. We will then match you (and your friends/organization) with a host who lives very close to the UC Berkeley campus. Depending on the number of volunteers, we may or may not be able to provide housing, which is given on a first come, first served basis. We ensure that every host will be friendly, accommodating, and trustworthy as long as their guests reflect the same attitude. If assigned a host, pack light and be prepared to bring a sleeping bag!

Will [favorite K-pop artist] be there?

At KPOPCON, we strive to empower a meaningful, supportive, and bias-free experience that is exclusively by the fans, for the fans. There are many K-pop concerts in America as artists reach out to more and more people each year, so as of now, there is not a need for KPOPCON to invite any of these artists in the coming years, though their participation and support is always welcomed.


How much is registration?

Note: Free volunteer housing is no longer available for registrants verified after February 20, 2014.

This year's registration is $20, which includes the convention packet (name tag, program, pen, goodies), access to all events and workshops, breakfast and lunch, and an amazing experience! The KPOPCON team is always aiming to balance the cost of the convention with registration. Unlike past conventions, this year’s registration will not include a shirt, though it will be available during the convention for sale!

Can I register or pay at the convention?

You may register on-site at the convention for $25 for both days, $15 for Saturday only, or $10 for Sunday only. In addition, due to our maximum capacity of 300 guests, waiting to register on-site may not guarantee entry to the event.

I can't make it to KPOPCON anymore, what can I do?

If you paid for registration but can no longer make it to KPOPCON, your registration payment is transferable, but unfortunately, not refundable. To transfer your registration to another recipient, send an email to [email protected] with your full name and email and your recipient’s full name and email. You’ll be missed!! :’(


How can I contribute?

KPOPCON attracts over 300 guests each year and is an intimate part of the K-pop community. How can I get involved?

Our team is always looking for passionate individuals to help make this amazing event spring to life. If you've got some spare living space or a knack for guiding guests, organization, or smile delivery, then we want YOU! Visit our volunteer registration page (currently unavailable) for more info!


What workshops should I expect?

At KPOPCON14, we hope to deliver 14 workshops/panels in 4 sessions. The first 3 sessions will be on day one and are usually interactive, enlightening, and empowering workshops that cover creativity, education, and leadership topics in K-pop. These workshops will embody and enhance the theme’s vision. On day two, during the course of the fan meetup, we will also be holding a fourth session of dance workshops! How can I perform at KPOPCON?

Every year during the meetup on day two, we have an open mic/talent session for day-of impromptu performances, which are often awarded with free giveaways! However, if you're interested in showing off your K-pop skills in front of hundreds of attendees during the special performances showcase, you may want to sign-up to perform.

What is the fan meetup?

The fan meetup on Sunday is a great chance to connect with fans, show off your talent, attend some dance workshops, and sell + purchase merchandise! We’ve got awesome activities lined up for you, including our open mic / talent show, K-pop quiz bowl, and DJ PeterLo spinnin’ your favorite K-pop hits the entire time. Booths representing your favorite fan clubs, organizations, and vendors will be giving away goodies, sharing their experiences, and selling that K-pop merch you’ve always wanted!

How do I set up a booth?

What is the Open Market Table?

If you have any K-pop merchandise you think could benefit from the love and care of your fellow K-pop fan, bring them to the Open Market Table hosted by the KPOPCON team! We’ll display each item at whatever price you set plus $1.00 (which proceeds to KPOPCON). You can then cash out your till and receive all of your unsold items when you leave.

Should I bring cash?

If you wish to purchase K-pop merchandise, please bring cash since cards won’t be accepted by our vendors and the Open Market Table. There are a number of bank ATMs by Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Chase near campus.
